About Luis Chavit Singson
Considered one of the most influential people in the Philippines. As a national hero, he defeated a private army that terrorized the Ilocos Sur province in the 1960s. First elected as governor in the 1971 elections, he held the position intermittently for twenty-seven years, making him one of the longest-serving governors in Philippine history. Singson has collaborated with every Philippine president since President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., who took office in 1965, up to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., elected in 2022. His LCS Group includes three banks, gold mines, the Partas transportation company with a fleet of over four hundred buses, and Romas Industry, a company that manufactures modern boats, including submarines. In 2016, he organized the Philippine edition of the Miss Universe pageant with a budget of over twenty million dollars.
Privately, he owns a fleet of private planes, a zoo, and enjoys hunting in the most remote corners of the globe, such as Alaska, Greenland, and Kamchatka. He is a philanthropist and a loving father of twenty-four children.

Popular interview questions
-
What is the most important thing your father taught you?
L: „You should have only one word. Otherwise, no one will believe you anymore. If you keep talking and talking without doing anything, you will lose credibility – that’s what my father used to say – and once lost, it’s hard to regain. That’s what I remember and stick to. If I say something, I do it. And if I make a mistake, I apologize.”
-
Are money important to you?
L: „Not really. I don’t understand people for whom money is the most important thing. Money isn’t yours until you spend it. That’s why I spend it.”
R: Money isn’t yours until you spend it? What do you mean by that?
L: „You never know when you will die, and you can’t take money to the grave. So, if you have money today and don’t spend it until you die, it’s not yours. Someone else will get it, and even your children might fight over it. People don’t understand this; they save every peso, are afraid of losing their money, and don’t want to share it with anyone. Money becomes the meaning of their life. Then, their end comes, and it turns out they saved it all for nothing because they never used it. So, all that money wasn’t really theirs.”

What legacy do you want to leave for your country?
L: „First and foremost, I would like the Philippines to be known as a place with honest and friendly people. As a country that one can visit, have a great time, and leave with more friends. You know, I always care about my reputation, so I want to do the same for the Philippines. I want to promote the Philippines and build a good reputation for my country. I consider the development of tourism as one of my important goals. I would like to provide Ilocos Sur with good tourism infrastructure: restaurants, hotels, attractions. Something that will generate income in the future. These are income-generating projects. I would also like to teach people to cooperate, to go beyond party lines when there is something to be done for the good of our children, for the future of Ilocos and the Philippines. I want to leave the Philippines in a more peaceful state.”
